St. Mark's Basilica at a glance
St. Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco) is the main church of Venice. It stands at the eastern end of St. Mark's Square, beside the Doge's Palace. Entry is regulated: every ticket is personal and tied to a time slot you book in advance. The prices below come from the booking site of the Procuratoria di San Marco, the body that looks after the church, as of October 2026.
The cheapest option is the basilica alone. You can add the Pala d'Oro, the golden altarpiece, or the museum with the terrace above the square. The Campanile, the bell tower on the square, is sold separately.

St. Mark's Basilica tickets and prices 2026
Individual visitors, entry via the Porta San Pietro. Adult prices as of October 2026.
| Ticket | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Basilica | €10 | The church interior |
| Basilica + Pala d'Oro | €20 | Church and the golden altarpiece |
| Basilica + Museum + Loggia dei Cavalli | €20 | Church, museum and the terrace with the horses |

The price list says private visitors automatically receive a standard 20% discount, with a further 50% for ages 10 to 18, students up to 26 and visitors over 65. Discounts do not apply to evening visits. It is not clear whether the €10 is the price before or after the 20%, so read the €10 as "from €10, discounts possible". Children under 11 are free, as are people with a disability (with proof), priests and members of religious orders, and accredited school groups. Free entry does not apply to the Campanile.

Time slots and opening hours
The rules are strict, so book before you come.
Time slot required
You can only enter in the slot you booked. A tolerance of about 5 minutes applies, and entry is refused if your time does not match. Book online with the Procuratoria. One account can buy a maximum of 5 tickets.
Basilica hours
Basilica and Pala d'Oro: Monday to Saturday 9:30 to 17:15, last entry 16:45. On Sundays and public holidays the basilica opens only from 14:00 to 17:15.
Museum and terrace
Open daily 9:30 to 17:15, last entry 16:45. On Sundays from 9:30 to 14:00 only the museum is open, because Mass is held in the basilica. Hours can change on feast days and for events with the Patriarch.
Evening visits
The lit basilica and the crypt can be booked for evening slots of one hour, roughly from 19:30 or 20:00 to 21:30 or 22:00. These tickets carry no discounts.
Dress code and bag rules
St. Mark's is a working church. Your shoulders and knees must be covered, and you are expected to keep your voice and behaviour respectful.
Backpacks and luggage larger than 40 x 30 x 20 cm are not allowed. Trolleys are not allowed under any circumstances. If you arrive straight from the station with a suitcase, leave it at your hotel first. There is no ban on suitcases across Venice as a whole, but the basilica will not let you in with one.
Pala d'Oro tickets add the golden altarpiece to the visit. As an add-on it costs €10 on top of the basilica ticket. We do not quote its dimensions or details, because we found them only in secondary sources.

The Campanile bell tower
The Campanile is 98.6 m high. You go up and down by lift only, which takes about 40 to 45 seconds each way. Plan on 30 to 40 minutes in total. The ticket costs €15 at the box office. Like the basilica, it is tied to a time slot, with a tolerance of about 5 minutes.
From April to October the tower opens daily from 9:30 and closes in the evening, at around 21:15. From November to March it closes at around 19:00. The official FAQ and the visitor page give slightly different last entry times, so treat all times as approximate and check the booking page.
The Campanile ticket also gives access to a few other churches and sacristies, including one on Torcello, and to the Home of The Human Safety Net in the Procuratie. Check the list on the booking site before you rely on it.

St. Mark's Square: what else is here
The square holds several sights within a few minutes' walk.
Doge's Palace
The former seat of the Venetian government stands next to the basilica. One ticket also covers the Museo Correr and two more museums on the square.
Doge's Palace →Getting there by boat
Line 1 stops at Vallaresso and San Zaccaria, line 2 at Giardinetti. Both serve the area around the square.
Getting around →High water
Water reaches the lowest points of the square first. According to a secondary source, that happens at around 80 cm, and the square floods at about 100 cm, when raised walkways go up.
