The access fee at a glance

The access fee (Contributo di Accesso) is a charge for day visitors to the historic centre of Venice. It does not apply every day, only on dates set in a calendar, and only between fixed hours. Guests who sleep in the municipality of Venice pay the tourist tax through their accommodation instead.

This page covers two things: how the fee worked in 2026, and what the city has announced for 2027. It is an independent guide. For payment and exemption codes, use the city's own booking portal when it opens.

2026: the trial that has ended

No payment is needed today. Since 27 July 2026 the access fee is no longer in effect.

Days and hours

60 days between 3 April and 26 July 2026, mostly weekends and holiday periods. The fee applied from 8:30 am to 4 pm. Outside those hours and on other days there was nothing to pay or register.

Prices in 2026

€5 if you paid up to and including four days before your visit, €10 after that. That includes the last three days and payment on the spot at sales points. Children aged 0 to 13 paid nothing. The price was per person.

Where it applied

The old town of Venice, not the smaller lagoon islands. The mainland, Piazzale Roma, Santa Lucia station, the Stazione Marittima, San Basilio, Tronchetto and the cruise ship landing on the Riva degli Schiavoni were excluded.

Fines

Visitors without proof of payment or exemption, or with a ticket for the wrong date, risked a fine of €25 to €150, according to the city's fee site.

2027: the calendar is set, the rest is not

The city decided the calendar on 15 October 2026. Other rules will follow.

What is decided

72 fee days from Good Friday, 26 March, to Sunday 15 August 2027. The fee applies from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, half an hour longer than in 2026. Most days are Fridays to Sundays, plus holidays and bridge days.

What is still open

The amount is capped at a maximum of €10. The price tiers, exemptions, booking, payment and control rules are to follow in further decisions. The opening of the booking portal is not known yet. The same goes for whether the fee covers the lagoon islands.

Longer fee periods

Two blocks run for consecutive days: 23 April to 2 May, around Liberation Day and 1 May, and 28 May to 6 June, around 2 June. Easter weekend with Easter Monday and the Ferragosto weekend are also on the calendar.

Some press reports mention figures of €30 or €50. These come from proposals and speculation. They are not part of the city's decision, which sets a maximum of €10.
